The Company

The company BEAL SA is a partnership between HELECTOR S.A and the Australian company Energy Developments Ltd. The two companies hold the 50 % of the total shares respectively. BEAL SA owns and operates the cogeneration facility fueled by biogas (landfill gas) from Ano Liosia landfill, which began operating in March 2001 with installed capacity of 13,8 MW. The expansion, in October 2006, by 9,7 MW raised the total installed capacity to 23,5 MW, making the plant one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The total investment cost amounted to 35.5 million, which was funded by Ministry of Development programs up to 45%.

The electricity produced by the facility is sold to LAGIE (Greek Power Market Operator) while thermal energy is produced from the waste heat of power generators in the form of hot water.
